1: Old Number 1 (1980)

number1This is the guitar that started it all!

This is the guitar that I built in 1980 in an attempt to sound like Mark Knopfler!

The body is kd hardwood painted black with automotive acrylic and the neck is from an old Eston acoustic. The body shape is influenced by a Burns Bison that I had as a young player and the Fender Strat that I always wanted but couldn’t afford. It has a “hardtail” Fender bridge with through-body stringing and Mity Mite Strat-style pickups.

Nearly thirty years later, it sits above my desk as good as the day I made it!
