40: – 40/ 10 1997 – The Figured Maple Red Strat

This is a Strat-shaped guitar, built entirely from highly figured Canadian Broad Leaf maple. The Strat is fitted with Fender Texas Special pickups and uses a Wilkinson bridge with Graphtec saddles and nut, and Gotoh machineheads.

The guitar was built as a demonstration instrument, but was  sold to Alastair Ford, from Sydney, who was at that time working for Song Zu, Les Gock’s film and television music company.

Al found the neck to be too flexible- a function of the flamed maple- and traded it back to me when he had #58 made for him.

It was subsequently bought by Olly Parnaby and he used it for some years in “our” band..

Fourteen years after it was made, it was returned to my workshop for refretting. All else is ok…well used, but fine. And now it’s being passed on to Olly’s son Rick  (Paperhouse, Black Hill Five).
